Frame size 28.5cm x 26cm. Ceramic Tile size 19.5cm × 18cm

I really like the dramatic contrast in this one as well as the depth of colour. The dark edge was made by rolling a dark granular sand that I find at the coast into the soft clay. An important wash of white has then been applied over this to prevent this area from being too dark, this wash has also highlighted the texture and the subtle embedded lines that could suggest lines in rock formations. The small crosses play an important part in the composition as they cross the white area into the green section and help to visually tie these shapes together.

Ceramic tile with incised lines, engobes, underglaze, glaze and oxides. Fired to 1140°C
