Dunes Horizon
With every piece I make it is important to build up layers of colour underneath white spaces. There is plenty of white space in this piece but it’s made richer and more tactile by adding washes of blue engobe and black slip before the white is applied. The white has been brushed on but also transferred from a piece of newspaper; this gives a variation in texture to the brush marks. The top edge has a contrasting feel with a glossy transparent blue glaze.
